Small state, big small-business share

New Hampshire is compact, but its economy leans on small firms more than most. The SBA Office of Advocacy's 2025 profile, using 2022 Census data, counts 145,314 small businesses employing 309,420 people, or 50.3 percent of private-sector workers, a higher share than the national figure.

Look at where those jobs sit and the MCA opportunity sharpens. Small firms hold 93.9 percent of New Hampshire's construction jobs, 88.7 percent of personal-services jobs and 74.3 percent of jobs in lodging and food service. Retail runs the other way: small retailers hold only 33.2 percent of retail employment, so independent shops compete with large chains for the same customers, often on thin margins.

Small businesses also drove recent growth. From March 2023 to March 2024 they accounted for 6,479 of 7,032 establishment openings and added a net 6,023 jobs, slightly more than the state's overall net gain.

Bank credit is a real but limited option. Federal CRA data shows $313.7 million in 2023 bank loans to New Hampshire firms earning $1 million or less a year. Many owners have strong local banking relationships, yet still turn to faster working capital when a pre-season inventory order, an equipment failure or a slow-paying customer cannot wait for a credit committee. Those are the moments a merchant cash advance is designed for.

Four regions, four kinds of New Hampshire merchants

New Hampshire merchants sort neatly by region, and each region has its own revenue rhythm.

Southern tier: Nashua, Manchester, Salem

The Boston commuter belt holds the most volume: contractors, auto repair, restaurants, medical and dental practices, and manufacturers in plastics, electronics and precision parts. Revenue is steadier here, and these merchants fit a standard real-time campaign, with requests spread fairly evenly across the year instead of packed in ahead of one season.

Seacoast: Portsmouth, Dover, Hampton

Restaurants, breweries, boutiques and beach businesses swing with summer, while marine trades and contractors stay busy year-round.

Lakes Region and Concord

Lake Winnipesaukee towns live on summer: marinas, rentals, ice cream stands and restaurants earn much of the year between June and Labor Day. Concord adds state-government-linked services and trades.

White Mountains and North Country

Inns, outfitters, ski shops and restaurants depend on two peaks: fall foliage and winter ski season. A poor snow year or a rainy October hits these owners hard, and many keep lean staff and lean cash between peaks.

When should you buy New Hampshire MCA leads?

Buy ahead of each season, not during it. New Hampshire owners usually ask for capital four to eight weeks before a peak, when they are hiring and stocking.

WindowWho needs capitalWhy
February to AprilLakes Region and Seacoast hospitality, landscapers, contractorsStaff, inventory and repairs before summer; contractors restart after winter
Mud season, April to MayNorth Country inns and shopsSki revenue has ended and summer has not begun
August to SeptemberWhite Mountains lodging, restaurants, retailersStocking and staffing for foliage traffic
October to DecemberSki shops, resorts' small suppliers, holiday retailRental fleets, inventory and seasonal payroll

Construction deserves its own note. With small firms carrying nearly all construction employment, the state has thousands of contractors who front materials and labor. Winters slow exterior work and stretch cash, and spring brings a rush of jobs that need materials before deposits clear. See construction MCA leads for filter ideas.

Do New Hampshire manufacturers make good MCA prospects?

New Hampshire's manufacturers and exporters are a quieter but valuable MCA segment. The SBA profile shows small firms were 84.5 percent of the state's identified goods exporters in 2023, shipping $2.5 billion, or 36.2 percent of export value. Most are precision machining, plastics, electronics and specialty equipment shops in the southern tier, many of them suppliers to larger manufacturers.

Those shops share a cash-flow problem. They buy metal, resin and components up front, carry work in progress for weeks, and then wait 30, 60 or even 90 days on invoices from customers who set the payment terms. A large new order can be the most stressful moment of the year, because it demands materials and overtime long before it pays.

  • Filters to try: a higher revenue floor, often $30,000 a month or more, and 12 or more months in business.
  • What to ask: customer concentration, typical payment terms and whether the shop already uses invoice factoring, since that affects how an advance is underwritten.
  • Where to find them: Nashua, Manchester, Salem, Hudson, Londonderry and the Seacoast industrial parks.

Is there a New Hampshire law on merchant cash advances?

New Hampshire has no statute that we know of, as of 2026, requiring disclosures or registration for merchant cash advances. In New England, Connecticut is the state with a commercial financing disclosure law that reaches sales-based financing, so ISOs working across the region should check each merchant's state.

Inside the state, the main outreach rules are federal: the TCPA covers calls and texts to mobile numbers, and each LoanLeads.io lead records the merchant's consent at the moment of submission. Keep your product what it claims to be: a merchant cash advance purchases a portion of future receivables and should include a working reconciliation process if sales fall. Present it that way to merchants, never as a loan, and put the purchase price, specified percentage and estimated remittance in writing so the owner can compare offers on equal terms. Laws change, so ask counsel to confirm where New Hampshire stands before you fund.

How should you buy New Hampshire leads alongside the rest of New England?

Treat New Hampshire as a focused, lower-volume market and pair it with nearby states if you need scale.

  • Revenue floor: $10,000 to $15,000 a month suits many New Hampshire service businesses; seasonal inns may show a lower average with very high summer or winter months.
  • Time in business: 12 months is a smart default for seasonal businesses so you see both peaks and troughs on the statements.
  • Lead types: use real-time exclusive leads for the southern tier and add aged leads to reach seasonal owners at the right point in their year.
  • Calling: Eastern Time statewide. Innkeepers are easiest to reach late morning after checkout; contractors before 8 a.m. or after 4 p.m.

If you need more volume than New Hampshire alone provides, run it next to neighboring states as separate campaigns rather than one blended New England order. Separate campaigns keep the reporting clean, so you can see whether a Nashua machine shop or a North Conway inn is producing your funded deals, and they make it easier to apply the right state rules to each merchant. Manufacturing is worth a test of its own: small manufacturers employ 31,431 people in the state, and job shops that supply larger plants often wait 30 to 60 days on invoices while buying materials up front.

Start with a test order, measure your cost per funded deal by region, then scale what works. Our guide to buying MCA leads walks through the setup.

FAQ

Questions buyers ask

What does New Hampshire's small-business sector look like?

According to the SBA Office of Advocacy's 2025 Small Business Profile, New Hampshire has 145,314 small businesses, 99.0 percent of all firms. They employ 309,420 people, 50.3 percent of the private workforce. Professional services and construction are the two largest small-business sectors by firm count.

Does New Hampshire regulate merchant cash advances?

Not with an MCA-specific statute that we can find in 2026. New Hampshire has no disclosure or registration law for sales-based financing, while nearby Connecticut does. Your calls and texts fall under the federal TCPA. Have your own counsel confirm current requirements before you fund a New Hampshire merchant.

When do New Hampshire seasonal businesses need capital?

Usually a month or two before each peak: late winter for summer businesses on the lakes and Seacoast, late summer for foliage traffic in the White Mountains, and fall for ski-season businesses. Mud season in April and May is a lean stretch for North Country owners.

Which New Hampshire industries are best for MCA leads?

Construction stands out, since small firms hold 93.9 percent of the state's construction jobs. Lodging, restaurants, personal services such as salons and auto repair, retail, manufacturing and health care practices also produce steady requests for working capital, with timing that depends heavily on the region and season.

Can I target just southern New Hampshire?

Yes. You can limit a campaign to Nashua, Manchester and other southern-tier communities, or run the Seacoast, Lakes Region and North Country separately. Splitting regions makes seasonality easier to manage, keeps reporting clean and shows which areas fund best for your offer and your funder panel.

Are aged leads a good fit for New Hampshire?

Often, yes. The state produces fewer leads per day than large states, and seasonal owners move in and out of need. A lower price per record makes it practical to revisit innkeepers, marinas and contractors who were not ready a few months ago but now face a pre-season cash crunch.

What hours should I call New Hampshire MCA leads?

New Hampshire is on Eastern Time. Call real-time leads within minutes during business hours. Innkeepers are often easiest to reach in late morning after guests check out, restaurant owners in mid-afternoon, and contractors early in the morning or late in the day when they are off the job site.
