Choosing an MCA Lead Generation Company: 12 Questions Before You Sign

Twelve questions to ask an MCA lead generation company before you sign: sourcing, consent, partners, ads, fields, filters, delivery, sharing, price, minimums, replacements and exit.

Short answer

Before you sign with an MCA lead generation company, ask twelve questions across three areas: how leads are sourced and consented, what data, filters and delivery you get, and what the price, minimum, replacement policy and exit terms are. LoanLeads.io answers all twelve in writing: published prices, a signed Lead Production Order, consent on every lead and a 3-day replacement window.

What should you know before hiring an MCA lead generation company?

You should know how the company finds merchants, what you are allowed to do with them, and what happens when a lead is bad. Everything else, the dashboard, the sales pitch, the volume claims, is secondary to those three facts.

An MCA lead generation company sits upstream of your entire sales process. If its traffic is weak, your closers spend their days on merchants who cannot fund. If its consent is sloppy, the legal exposure lands on whoever dials. If its contract is vague, you have no recourse. The twelve questions below are grouped so you can run through them on one call, and each one includes what a solid answer sounds like.

Ask them in writing if you can, or follow a call with an email that restates the answers. A provider that is comfortable with its answers will be comfortable seeing them written down.

Questions 5 to 8: data, filters, delivery and sharing

5. Which fields come with each lead, and which are checked?

Expect owner name, phone, email, business name, industry, state, monthly revenue, time in business and amount requested. Ask which fields are validated by the company (phone numbers usually are) and which are the merchant's own statements (revenue always is). You will confirm revenue from bank statements either way, but you should know what was checked before delivery.

6. Which filters can I set before the lead is sent to me?

Filters applied before delivery save you money; filters you apply after delivery only save you time. Ask about revenue floor, time in business, state, industry and credit band. If you work only certain states, confirm that out-of-state leads are excluded rather than delivered and replaced.

7. How is a lead delivered, and how quickly?

Real-time leads should post to your CRM, a webhook or email within seconds of submission. Ask for a test lead during setup, and check the timestamp against the arrival time. A delay of an hour turns a fresh inquiry into a stale one.

8. How many buyers receive each lead, and on what schedule?

Get a number and a timeline. "Exclusive" should mean one buyer. "Shared" should come with the count and the timing. A lead shared with two other buyers over 48 hours is a very different product from one sent to six buyers in the same second. For the economics of each, see whether exclusive MCA leads are worth $60.

Questions 9 to 12: price, minimums, replacements and exit

9. What will I pay per lead, and is it written down before I pay?

The price per lead, any volume discount, and any fee on top should be in the order you sign. Surprise fees after the first invoice are a bad sign for the rest of the relationship. Some companies publish prices; others quote per campaign. Either is fine if it is in writing.

10. What is the smallest order I can test with?

A test order should be large enough to produce a readable result and small enough to lose without pain. Be cautious with any company that will only sell large monthly commitments to a buyer it has never worked with.

11. Which bad leads are replaced, and how fast must I ask?

Ask for the list of qualifying reasons, the time window and the proof required. Common reasons are disconnected numbers, duplicates, leads outside your geography and people who say they never applied. A short window means your team must work leads promptly.

12. How do I end the agreement, and does anything renew on its own?

Know the notice period, whether the contract auto-renews and whether unused leads or prepaid balances are refundable. Many lead fees are non-refundable, which makes questions 10 and 11 your real protection.

Which answers should make you pause?

Pause when an answer is vague where it should be specific, or confident where it should be cautious. The table lists answers that deserve a follow-up question before you sign.

You hearWhy it mattersAsk next
"Our sources are proprietary."You cannot judge intent or consent"Which channels, then, even if not which partners?"
"Every lead is pre-qualified for funding."Only a funder can approve a merchant"Qualified against which fields?"
"Leads are semi-exclusive."The term has no fixed meaning"How many buyers, and when?"
"We replace anything you don't like."Unwritten generosity tends to shrink later"Can you put the criteria in the contract?"
"You will fund X deals, promised."Nobody controls your close rate or your fundersTreat it as a reason to walk away
"Minimum is three months prepaid."No room to test"What is your smallest trial order?"

How do you turn the answers into a decision?

Score each answer as clear, vague or missing, and only test companies with no missing answers in questions 1, 2, 9 and 11. Those four cover source, consent, price and replacements; a gap in any of them is a gap you will pay for later.

A simple scoring sheet:

  1. Clear and in writing: 2 points.
  2. Clear on the call, not yet written: 1 point, until the email arrives.
  3. Vague, deflected or "it depends" with no follow-up: 0 points.

A company that scores 20 or more out of 24, with the four key questions all clear, is worth a test order. Below that, ask the weak questions again in a different way. Sometimes a salesperson simply does not know and will come back with the right answer from operations. Sometimes the vagueness is the answer.

Keep the sheet. If you test two companies, the scores and the results side by side show you whether the clearer company also produced the better leads. That comparison, built from your own calls and your own funded deals, is worth more than any sales presentation.

FAQ

Questions on this topic

What does an MCA lead generation company do?

It attracts business owners who are looking for working capital, captures their details and consent through a funding application, checks the data and delivers each lead to an ISO, broker or funder whose filters it fits. Some companies also sell aged leads and live transfers. LoanLeads.io does all three for loan products only.

How do I compare two MCA lead generation companies?

Ask both the same twelve questions, compare the written answers, then run a matched test: same filters, same states, same callers, tagged separately. After a few weeks, compare cost per funded deal. The company with the lower cost per deal, not the lower price per lead, is the better fit for you.

Should an MCA lead generation company sign a contract with me?

Yes. A written order protects both sides by setting the price, quantity, replacement rules and exit terms. For online orders at LoanLeads.io, that document is the Lead Production Order: it fills in with your company details on the order page, and you sign it before Stripe takes payment.

Is a lead generation company responsible for TCPA compliance?

Responsibility can fall on several parties, including the company that generates the lead and the business that makes the call. Contracts often limit what the lead company accepts. Treat compliance as your responsibility too, and have counsel review your consent, calling and texting practices. This is general information, not legal advice.

How long should I test an MCA lead generation company?

Long enough for deals to move from first call to funding. For real-time leads that is often a few weeks; for aged files it can be longer because dialing takes longer. Set a decision date before the leads arrive and judge by funded deals and pipeline, not by first impressions.

What if an MCA lead generation company will not answer these questions?

Treat a refusal as an answer. A company that will not explain its sources, consent or replacement terms before you pay is unlikely to be more open after. There are providers who will answer in writing, and a missed opportunity costs less than a contract you regret.
